The Town & the City: Lowell before and after The Civil War
Originally created to be a digital archive for Lowell documents from 1826 to 1861, this website has grown to cover many periods and events in Lowell's history.
The originals of these document collections belong to the City of Lowell, the University of Massachusetts Lowell, and the Lowell Historical Society. The originals are located at Lowell City Hall and the Center for Lowell History.
Please note: Not evey collection that has been digitized is listed below on this page. All of the digitized colletions are available by clicking on the blue collection names buttons in the column on the left beneath the "Contact us" button.
The collections were digitized using a Canon Rebel T3i DSLR camera at the O’Leary Library and the Center for Lowell History.
The online collections were built by Mickyas Yihdego, Bailey Wong, and Brad MacGowan. The documents were archived and inventoried by Walter Hickey and Brad MacGowan.
Special thanks to Janine Whitcomb at the Center for Lowell History for her efforts, ideas, and support.
This is a work in progress and documents will be added on a regular basis.
