The Center for Lowell History was originally established as a Lowell-specific archive in 1971. Since that time it has grown to assure the safekeeping, preservation, and availability of materials in unique local historical subject areas from the Greater Lowell area and beyond. Collections include materials held by the Lowell Historical Society, the Boston and Maine Railroad, and the Middlesex Canal Association.
Located downtown in the National Park Service’s Patrick J. Mogan Cultural Center, the Center assists students, faculty and the community in the research and discovery of the human story. The Center is committed to the design and implementation of historical, educational, and cultural programs that link the University and the community in developing an economically strong and multi-culturally rich region.

The University of Massachusetts Lowell Center for Lowell History is located on the first floor of the Patrick J. Mogan Cultural Center, 40 French Street, Lowell MA 01852
From the South - 495: Take 495 North to Exit 35C - Lowell Connector and then take Exit 5B - Thorndike Street. Follow the signs to the Tsongas Arena and Boott Mills (Thorndike Street, Dutton Street, Arcand Drive.) At the end of Arcand Drive take a right onto Father Morissette Boulevard which becomes French Street. The Mogan Center is 1 block down the street on the left.
From the South or North - 93 or 95: Take 95 North or South to Exit 495 South and then take Exit 38 - Lowell Tewksbury. Follow Route 38 pass Saints Memorial Hospital to the rotary, take the second exit off the rotary. At the Bridge Street intersection (bottom of the ramp) take a left over the bridge and then take the first right - French Street. The Mogan Center is 2 blocks up on the right.
From South or North - 3: Take 3 North or South take Exit 30 - Lowell Connector and then take Exit 5B - Thorndike Street. Follow the signs to the Tsongas Arena and Boott Mills (Thorndike Street, Dutton Street, Arcand Drive.) At the end of Arcand Drive take a right onto Father Morissette Boulevard which becomes French Street. The Mogan Center is 1 block down the street on the left.
Parking: On street parking is limited - recommend parking in the John Street Garage - located 1 block from the Mogan Center at the corner of French Street and John Street.
