The Paul E. Tsongas Collection
The physical collection of papers from his Representative and Senate terms, held at the Center for Lowell History, consist of 720 boxes. A finding aid for the Congressional Collection can be accessed by contacting on the Center for Lowell History.
Supplementing the Congressional Collection, the Center for Lowell History also holds Tsongas's Boston and Home Office Papers.
Finally, in 1998 Tsongas also donated his Presidential Campaign Papers. A finding aid to this collection of Tsongas for President Papers is also available from Center for Lowell History.
In 2009 the UML Libraries' Center for Digital Scholarship began the process of preparing the Tsongas Congressional Collection for digitization. This effort culminated in a Library Services and Technology Act grant, "Digitizing Historical Resources", awarded to UMass Lowell Libraries from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners in 2010 for FY 2011. The grant money allowed us to scan over 10,000 documents from the Tsongas Congressional Collection, and from the Lowell Historical Architectural Inventory as well as transcribed oral histories from Lowell residents associated with Tsongas' political career. UMass Lowell Libraries has continued the digitization process recently adding a series of photographic negatives.
