The Kerouac Park on the Eastern Canal was dedicated in writer, Jack Kerouac's memory, in 1988. It earned an American Institute of Architects Citations for Excellence in Urban Design in 1990. The park is comprised of granite benches for people to read, relax or enjoy the noises of downtown Lowell. There is also green space with the center of the park including tall, granite monuments with excerpts of a variety of Kerouac's writings and other inspirational quotes. The photographs included below document the dedication and usage of the park in the late 1980s.
