Depending upon your research topic in sociology, you may find the following resources for finding raw data useful.

Sociology & Education Open Datasets -
Brings together links to information on the U.S. and other countries including social, economic, and health data. Sources include the state of Massachusetts, the U.S. Census Bureau, and the United Nations.

ICPSR (Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Science Research)
An international consortium of more than 800 academic institutions and research organizations. ICPSR maintains a data archive of more than 350,000 files of research in the social and behavioral sciences. It hosts 16 specialized collections of data in education, aging, criminal justice, substance abuse, terrorism, and other fields.
