POLI 2180: Sports and Politics
The course seeks to increase awareness of sport and its relationship to politics and society. The course will introduce students to sports history and the role of sports in forming our ideas about the world. The study of twentieth century and contemporary sports offers a unique depiction of American life and the changes that have taken place within it, such as racial prejudice and gender inequality. The course also intends to highlight the importance of understanding the historical and cultural context by which sporting practices take distinctive form and significance.
