Professional Associations for Civil and Environmental Engineering
Professional associations are organizations that promote an occupation or industry by providing networking opportunities, workshops, and other support for current and aspiring workers. They often hold conferences where members present research and discuss industry trends. Some offer discounted student memberships, and conference presentations can help newcomers build experience in their field.
There are many professional associations for Civil and Environmental Engineering, and we’ve gathered links to a selection of these below.
The BSCES was founded in 1848 and is the oldest engineering association in the U.S. It is affiliated with the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
ASCE represents. more than 150,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries. The profession plans, designs, constructs, builds, and maintains society's "built environment". ASCE is involved in civil engineering conferences, continuing education, technical publications, standards, and programs.
The NCEES is the professional organization that provides licensing for engineers and surveyors. They administer the "Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and the "Principles & Practice of Engineering (PE) exam, and cover engineering licensure for 27 disciplines, including Environmental and Civil.
