Historical Note

Beat Scene is a Beat Generation-themed magazine founded in 1988 in the United Kingdom, by editor and publisher, Kevin Ring. An extensive history of this active magazine is available on their website.

Scope and Content

The Beat Scene Collection is comprised of a 2002-2014 run of the magazine as well an extensive collection of Beat Scene Press booklets. Featured are photographs and graphics, articles by such authors as Kevin Ring and Jim Burns, interviews with close associates of the Beat Movement, letters, reviews, and news on Beat related events as well as some previously unpublished material. In addition to Beat principles such as Kerouac, Ginsberg, and Ferlinghetti Beat Scene includes works on Richard Brautigan and by Charles Bukowski. The collection is not a comprehensive representation of Beat Scene publications.
