The focus of this course is on examining health issues from a global perspective including issues related to maternal and child health, aging, infectious disease, sanitation and health inequality. Nutritional and environmental health issues in diverse societies are analyzed. Social determinants of health and access to health care in developing and developed countries are emphasized.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Describe social, economic, political, and environmental factors that affect global health.
  • Analyze key global health issues and their relevance to specific societies.
  • Examine the impact of globalization on environmental health and transmission of dieseases.
  • Discuss interventions to address global health issues.
