TO HIS MOTHER HANNAH LANG FRENCH3

                                    Lowell4 March 25 1849
Dear Mother
I take my pen in hand
to reply to your letter which I should
have done before but the store men thought
that butter would be higher & so I thought
it best not to hurry about writing Butter is
worth from 15 to 20 cts pr pound we can get
good for 18 now but it may be higher soon &
it may be lower you did not write what you
could get for it up there so I cant tell you whether it
best for you to bring it down we should all
be glad to have you come down if you
could we are all as well as usual Matilda
had the Scarlet fever this winter & has a
ring worm humour all over her now which
she does get nothing to cure it yet.  if you
know anything that will help it I wish
you would write down

Wm5 folks are well as usual
my best respects to all of you
                                   Geo L. French

P.S. George and I are both well and should be happy to have
you come down and stay awhile with us
