Commonwealth Collections

Guide to shared Massachusetts eBook, Audiobook and Streaming Video collections

The UMass Lowell Libraries are pleased to announce that we have joined the Commonwealth Collections, a project among the Massachusetts Library System, the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners and participating libraries that increases access to ebooks, audiobooks, and streaming video. The first of its kind in the country, you can learn more about this innovative collaboration here.

A free mobile app, Libby, makes it easy to find and borrow great titles from all participating lenders. Libby is available for download from the Apple App Store, Google Play, and the Microsoft Store.

To get started,

  1. Select a network (It's best to start by selecting SAILS since UML is affiliated with that network).
  2. Sign into the network and choose “University of Massachusetts Lowell - Patrons” as your library
  3. Browse or search for the book or audiobook you wish to check out
  4. Click “Borrow” and choose length of loan period
  5. At the end of the loan period, books are returned automatically. To return early and make it available for other patrons, go to My Account → Loans and click “Return” under selected item
