Online Student Guide to UMass Lowell Library

Introduction to the University of Massachusetts Lowell Library resources and services for students in online programs.

Library Catalog for Online Students

The Catalog is where you search to find books, journals, and videos that are accessible through the library.  It is part of a global catalog, so when you search for a term you will see materials available through UMass Lowell first, then materials from other libraries.

From the library website, UMass Lowell Library, select the Catalog tab in the middle of the page.

  •    Search by title, author, subject, or keyword in the Basic search
  •    Select Advance Search and search multiple fields in the same search.

Through both the Basic Search and  the Advanced Search you can also limit your search to materials owned by UMass Lowell by scrolling down to the Held By Library link and selecting UMass Lowell Library.

Note: You can search titles of journals in the catalog but search for journal articles through the databases.

eBooks: 24/7 access

The UMass Lowell Library has many eBook collections. Some of these collections cover broad subject areas and others are limited to a specific subject.  Most allow you the option to either read the book online or to download the book or chapters by registering for a free account.  These accounts will usually give you access to special tools such as highlighting, notes, and remembering the page you last read.

Since these eBooks are available through different publishers, they may be organized in a different manner than you are accustomed to seeing.   Take a minute when you open one to see how it is organized and what features are available through it.

The  Internet Archive is not part of the Umass Library subscriptions, it is a free service that we do not have control over when it adds or subtracts titles.   The Internet Archive site will require you to start a free account to obtain the full text version of the book and its format will look like a book with pages to turn.

All of our eBook collections are accessible through the Library's catalog.
