Resources to learn about stories of immigrants who settled in Lowell.

Overview

From the late 1800s to the outbreak of World War I in 1914, over 50,000 Armenians emigrated to North America. Most were single men from the Ottoman Empire (eastern Turkey). As conditions for Armenians in the Ottoman Empire worsened between the 1890s and 1908, the number of Armenians in North America increased significantly. At the war's end, many who survived joined their families in North America and Europe.
