Generally, we ask that you contact us at least a week in advance of your visit; however, if you are coming from outside the area or have less flexibility with the date of your visit, please contact us as far in advance as possible so we are more likely to be able to accommodate your needs.
If a last-minute appointment is requested, we will do our best to accommodate you, but we cannot guarantee availability, so please plan accordingly.
When planning a research visit, staff will help you locate information relevant to your area of research. This will ensure that the information which you desire is onsite and ready for use when you arrive.
The decision of whether to use a digital surrogate or other copy of fragile originals will be made by the archivist and library staff. If you believe an exception should be made in your case, please let staff know, and we will work with you to accommodate your request when possible.
The Center for Lowell History has Wi-Fi available for all visitors.
Before your first appointment with us, please fill out the User Registration form below. Whether you have been to archives around the world or this is your first time using an archive for research, we welcome you and ask that you take the time to review the following policies and procedures.
Our collections hold many irreplaceable items, and one of our primary goals is protection of the history entrusted to us. Please remember that all rules and policies are enforced with the aim of leaving items in the state they were found, ensuring their preservation for future research.
