This course provides an introduction to qualitative research methods in sociology. Since an understanding of qualitative research is best gained through experience in the social world, this course emphasizes a “learn by doing” approach. Students will learn the basic techniques for collecting, analyzing, and writing up research data. This course will also consider some of the central methodological issues related to doing qualitative research. Through our readings and fieldwork, we will explore various critical ethical and political questions, which arise while doing qualitative research.
