Students will study Grimms’ fairy tales; their collection and publication by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm in the context of 19th century German Romanticism, and their relevance to modern social commentary. Reading the texts in English translation, students will gain an understanding of the content and structure of the tales, of their cultural components, and their function through time.
