The National Criminal Intelligence Resource Center (NCIRC) is funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). BJA's overall goals are to reduce and prevent crime, violence, and drug abuse and improve the functioning of the criminal justice system. To achieve these goals, BJA programs emphasize enhanced coordination and cooperation of local, state, and federal efforts. BJA encourages the development and implementation of comprehensive strategies, provides training and technical assistance, reduces the availability of illegal weapons and develops strategies to address violence in our communities, enhances the ability of criminal justice agencies to access and use new information technologies, and encourages and supports evaluation of the effectiveness of funded programs and dissemination of program results in order to reduce and prevent crime and violence.
The Global Justice Information Sharing Initiative (Global) serves as a Federal Advisory Committee (FAC) and advises the U.S. Attorney General on justice information sharing and integration initiatives. Global was created to support the broad scale exchange of pertinent justice and public safety information. It promotes standards-based electronic information exchange to provide the justice community with timely, accurate, complete, and accessible information in a secure and trusted environment.
Global is a ''group of groups,'' representing more than 30 independent organizations, spanning the spectrum of law enforcement, judicial, correctional, and related bodies. Member organizations participate in Global with a shared responsibility and shared belief that, together, they can bring about positive change by making recommendations and supporting the initiatives of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) was created in 1984 to reduce violent crime, create safer communities, and reform our Nation’s criminal justice system.
BJA strengthens the Nation’s criminal justice system and helps America’s state, local, and tribal jurisdictions reduce and prevent crime, reduce recidivism, and promote a fair and safe criminal justice system. BJA focuses its programmatic and policy efforts on providing a wide range of resources, including training and technical assistance, to law enforcement, courts, corrections, treatment, reentry, justice information sharing, and community-based partners to address chronic and emerging criminal justice challenges nationwide.
The National Institute of Corrections (NIC) is the only federal agency with a legislative mandate (Public Law 93-41.5) to provide specialized services to corrections from a national perspective. NIC is recognized by other federal agencies for its unique role and quality services. Its leadership is evidenced by the numerous partnerships and interagency agreements targeted to provide correctional services and training.
CISA works closely with public sector, private sector, and international partners, offering technical assistance, information security, and education to protect our nation’s critical infrastructure from a broad range of threats. Through CISA Central, CISA coordinates situational awareness and response to current cyber, communications, and physical incidents.
