Printing and Scanning

Printing in the Libraries

Both Lydon and O'Leary Libraries have UPrint locations. In Lydon there are stations on the main and second floors. In O'Leary there are seven locations, on the main and 4th floors, as well as the Digital Learning Center, (three stations), the Writing Center and the Centers for Learning. For other UPrint locations on campus, see the link at left.

Printing with UPrint only involves a few extra steps than normal printing:

  • Have your UCard/UML ID available, or purchase a UPrint card in Lydon or O'Leary.
  • Preview your job to ensure it will print how you would expect.
  • Print your job as you typically would.
  • Enter your SiS ID Number (without the preceding "UMS") and a name for your job so you can identify it when released.

When you are ready to print all of your jobs, find the nearest Pharos release station (touch screen LCD device next to the printer) and swipe your card.
You will be shown all of your jobs; choose the ones you want and press print; delete the ones you don't!

For a step-by-step walk through on how to use UPrint, complete with screen shots and pictures, see the link to the Powerpoint at left.

Adding Value

If you deplete your print allotment, you can add value to your card two ways:

  • Swipe your UCard or UPrint Card (available for $1) at the value-adding machine at Lydon or O'Leary Hall to add cash. You don't need a UPrint Card if you have a UCard!
  • Navigate to our online web portal at MyPay.uml.edu to load funds via any major credit card.  You may load any amount desired between $1 and $100 with any major credit card with no fees.

For more information go to the University's UPrint webpage.

Scanning

Locations

Scanners are available in Lydon on the first floor. Ask at the circulation desk if you can't find the scanner.
Scanners are available in the printing areas at both O'Leary and Lydon Libraries. The scanners are high quality iVina Bookedge models that allow books to be placed over the scanner edge for single-page scanning. The scan beds are 11" x 17" so large book pages can be scanned.

Scanning management
Scanning is managed through the BookScan Station next to each scanner. Options are provided to save scans to a USB (jump or thumb) Drive, Google Docs, email, or Scan to the printer. Printing costs explained above.

Formatting Options
File format options for saved scans are PDF, searchable PDF for text documents, TIFF for high resolution images, and JPEG for lower resolution website quality images. Also, three color modes and three resolution levels are offered as well as the ability to zoom, crop, and rotate your scan image.
