When you search the library catalog, you will be simultaneously searching:
Material that you can borrow immediately from the UMass Lowell Libraries will appear at the first in the list of results.
Items in BLC libraries will appear after our own material. Materials in other libraries in Massachusetts are listed next, followed by libraries across the country and beyond. You will be able to see which group holds an item in the first level of results. It will appear as “Libraries that own this item.”
For instance you may see a search result that looks like this:
When you click the title of the book you will see a tab "Request from Interlibrary Loan". When you click it, you are taken to the ILL log-in page. Use your Interlibrary loan account credentials to log in. Instructions for creating an account are below.
Make sure the library does not already own the title you are requesting!
You can get a PDF scan of the pages you need by placing an Interlibrary Loan request and indicating that you want select pages rather than the whole book. Here is an example:
First, go to the library catalog, https://www.uml.edu/library/, and find your book. We'll use this title as an example: Rethinking Disability : a Disability Studies Approach to Inclusive Practices
Once on the catalog record, click on the blue "Order Through Interlibrary Loan" button. You’ll be asked to enter your Interlibrary Loan login credentials, (see box at left). After that, select “Book Chapter” from the left menu, and enter your book information. Be sure to include the page numbers that you need. Most requests for physical books are processed in 2-14 days, and chapter scans usually have a faster turnaround time.
The new user log- in page is pictured below.
When creating your ILL account you will be asked which library you are registering to, Lydon or O'Leary. You answer will depend on where you spend most of your time while on campus. ALSO, this is where any books requested through ILL will be waiting for you to pick them up.
