Basics of the Library

You will need to be logged in to the UML Library to access some of the material in this guide. If you are logged in to your UML email you are logged in to the library. You may get an additional authentication phone call from Duo. This is routine.

If prompted, enter your UML email credentials. If you still have trouble, clear the cache on your device. Email not working? Troubleshoot from here.

Welcome to the UMass Lowell Library

There are three libraries, O'Leary, Lydon and the Center for Lowell History. Doing research in the library catalog is not like searching Google. Sometimes Google can be helpful for background, and Google Scholar and Google Books may have titles you need. But as your college work becomes more narrowly specific Google will be too general for your needs. This guide emphasizes the research process and focuses on writing. There are basic components to writing papers and this guide presents them sequentially, so you can focus  on one area at a time and learn about it before moving on.

Consider this thought from W.E.B.  DuBois:

"Now is the accepted time, not tomorrow, not some more convenient season. It is today that our best work can be done."
