This course begins with a discussion of Native American building traditions and proceeds chronologically from the 17th through the 20th centuries. Students will gain a familiarity with the major movements in American architecture:

❖ Greek Revival
❖ Victorian
❖ Arts and Crafts
❖ City Beautiful
❖ International Style
❖ Postmodern.
Also the leading architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Frank Gehry. The architecture is discussed in its historical context with attention to the inventions, materials and aesthetic assumptions that made it possible.
