A Statement on Equity

Please be aware that owing to the new situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic, our students and ourselves are under a lot of pressure. We know that some of our students are caregivers to their families and loved ones. Many may be working more, because their jobs require them to, or less, because work is no longer available, creating financial duress. Students may have limited technology access, including lack of WiFi and cellphone-only access with limited data. 

Equity and diversity activists are emphasizing asynchronous and low-tech solutions. 

Please take things easy, both on yourselves and your students, and be flexible as we are all adapting to the new situation. 

FAQ's

❖ What is the most helpful thing I can do to right now for my students? 

Please be in touch with them. Let them know you are working to provide a good experience for them. Once you have a plan for the rest of the semester, let them know what it is. 

If you haven’t already, send them an email, post a message to your class site, or otherwise reach out them... even if it’s only to say you are working on a plan and will have it ready shortly. 

❖ Where is the central “Continuity of Learning” UML web site?

❖ Where is the list of webinars offered by IT?

❖ Where should I organize all the material I’m preparing for my students? 

In your Blackboard shell. As of Fri Mar 13, you should have a shell for all your regular classes. If you do not, please email bbhelp@uml.edu for assistance. See more info in the Blackboard section below, including a quick start guide

❖ When will the University re-open? 

At present, the campus is not closed. However, we are conducting as much work as we can remotely. Classes will not meet on campus.
