How to Use Digital Measures

Why transfer citations?

It's likely your publications are already stored in another software or database such as Google Scholar, RefWorks, Mendeley, EndNote, Web of Science, Scopus, Zotero or PubMed. These can be easily exported as BibTeX files and then imported to Digital Measures, eliminating the hassle of retyping every line of information.

How do I transfer citations?

Step 1. Export Citation

The first step is exporting your citation from a secondary site, such as Researchgate or Google Scholar, where the citation has already been documented. This process varies depending on the website or database your citation is in. For more information on specific websites check out the Digital Measures website under "How to Export Publications to a BibTeX file".

Step 2. Upload file

Once you have a citation saved as a BibTeX you can then import this citation to your Digital Measures page. Begin on your Intellectual Contributions page. Here you will see an option to import items. Click this button.

You will then see this page appear, where you can upload your BibTeX file or PubMed file. See step 1 for more information on creating BibTeX files.

Step 3. Handle Duplicates

Once you have a citation saved as a BibTeX you can then import this citation to your Digital Measures page.

After importing your data, you will then be presented with a screen of duplicates (if any exist). For each of the potentially duplicate records, you must now pick This record is a duplicate. Show me the next record or This record is NOT a duplicate. Show me the next record.

Step 4. Choose Collaborators

Once you have a citation saved as a BibTeX you can then import this citation to your Digital Measures page.

You now have the option to link the names from the file to the user accounts in Digital Measures. Here, a list of the names of people that are in all the records from the file are displayed. You must select the correct collaborator from the UML Digital Measures System.

Step 5. Review Records and Import

Once you have a citation saved as a BibTeX you can then import this citation to your Digital Measures page. The last and final step is to import your items. You will see this screen:

After selecting import, a confirmation screen will appear. Select OK to continue.
