Adopting Open Educational Resources

Rise in Textbook Cost

Though many agree that the rise in textbook cost has far outpaced other student expenses, some have objected that if students can spend money on beer they should be able to afford textbooks.

The equivalent cost of beer per semester would allow students to drink
•10 cans of beer every day before class and
•4 six packs on each Saturday and each Sunday.

Open Educational Resources consist of books, articles, images, videos, curricula, and other materials which are free to be used in educational settings, subject to certain limits, without payment. These resources exist either in the Public Domain, or under one of several types of Creative Commons license.
