Wind Energy

Wind EnergyThis field, like solar energy engineering, strives to harness the abundant natural power that exists almost ubiquitously on Earth's surface and transform it into a viable source of electrical energy.

Developments in mechanical and electrical engineering can lead to more efficient generators and computerized regulation systems, while new materials science innovations can lead to lighter, less expensive, and more durable equipment.

In addition to UMass Lowell's Center for Wind Energy, the Francis College of Engineering offers the following courses specific to this field:

  • 22.426  Green Energy Engineering

  • 22.558  Aero/Wind Engineering
