Theses and Dissertations at UMass Lowell


  • Electronic copies:
  • Archival paper copies:
    • Search for the item:
    • Fill out a Storage Retrieval Form including the call number and the year for the thesis/dissertation you wish to retrieve.
    • The item will be retrieved from storage within 24 hours (no weekend retrieval).
    • Contact the Circulation Desk at Lydon Library, North Campus. The paper copy must be used at Lydon Library.
  • Microfilm copies:
    • Search the UMass Lowell Theses/Dissertation Database or the UML Library Catalog as above.
    • Get the call number for the item.
    • Go to the microfilm room, second floor, Lydon Library, UML North. Masters and Doctoral items are kept in separate cabinets.
    • Look by department (chemistry, education, etc.) and then by year and call number within the department.
    • Use the reader/printers to make a print copy.

Please Note:

The library stopped the ongoing practice of archiving paper copies of theses in 2008, but does retain the copies archived until that point; the library did not get rid of the paper copies archived up until then.  They are are stored at Lydon Library and are still available from there.

Although microform copies may  still exist we no longer have a microform reader/printer to view them.  Also, not all students choose to publish their thesis or might delay publication so  the dissertation database might have a citation but not a full text.
