Mr. Daniels, who fought against apartheid, was imprisoned for 15 years on Robben Island, where he became close friends with Nelson Mandela. He is the author of "There & Back: Robben Island, 1964-1979." Mandela said, "We recall his loyalty and courage; his sense of humor, and justice as well as total commitment to the struggle of the prisoners for the eradication of injustice and betterment of their conditions."
