Meet Dr. Pierson

Michael Pierson, PhD, is a Professor of History at University of Massachusetts Lowell. Dr. Pierson is the author of two books: Mutiny at Fort Jackson: The Untold Story of the Fall of New Orleans (Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 2008) and Free Hearts and Free Homes: Gender and American Antislavery Politics (Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 2003). He has published 10 articles. He has given presentations on his research at the Tsongas Industrial History Center and as part of the Parker Lecture Series. He teaches an undergraduate course The American Civil War in Memory, in which students consider how Americans remember the Civil War.
